What will the clinic of the future look like?

Healthcare remains one of the most unsophisticated industries in terms of digitization.

Just 10 years ago, it was difficult to imagine the possibility of ordering for a taxi ride in just a couple of minutes, having already made restaurant food delivered to your doorstep in just half an hour or doing all your banking and payments from your smart phone, and now it has become a daily occurrence.

Over the same period, the formats of providing medical care have not changed much. But Covid and record investment in MedTech should fix it.

Healthcare too is going to have to change and we are going to have to invest in and build clinics and hospitals for the future. The clinic of the future must meet the key health trends:

- focus on the result for the patient (value-based healthcare)

- personalized approach based on medical data

- focus on preventive care

- seamless path for the patient and integration of new virtual formats

- unloading routine tasks from Doctors and their reorientation to building relationships with the patient

- changing the patient status from the object to the subject of treatment, responsible for their health.

The first step towards the clinic of the future is what is called “tech-enabled clinics”, which combine an offline clinic, some digital services, and virtual care. This is the first step that every healthcare provider should be looking at implementing now.

Digital health services usually include:

- electronic schedule and online appointment

- automatic medical history collection

- support for medical decisions, including with the help of artificial intelligence

- electronic medical records

- digital clinic/doctor for capacity planning, load optimization, and automation of routine tasks.

While Virtual care is the use of wearable and other smart devices (phones, patches etch)for health monitoring and 24*7 access to telemedicine.

Great examples of such clinics can already be found in all the most developed MedTech markets: in the United States (OneMedical and Carbon Health ), Europe (AviMedical) and China (Doctor Work)

This is the future we are working to build in Africa’s healthcare space as well. As a healthcare provider, you should not have to choose between worrying about implementing this future and saving lives. You can focus on saving lives and Dokitari will provide you the tools you need to increase you efficiency and improve your outcomes.
